CipherSchools is pivoting but why?

What is CipherSchools?

Cipherschools is a bootstrapped ed-tech company active in B2B and B2C space in India.

Started in early 2020 has now successfully been able to impact 10000+ students across different Colleges & Universities with its free webinar & workshops and 4000+ students with it’s paid program.

The objective of the different programs offered is to not only help students learn but also be able to grab good career opportunities out there.

Although CipherSchools doesn’t guarantee placement but assures if you learn the way we have designed the curriculum/journey, you’ll surely succeed in the interviews.

Mentioned below is a small stats of our students securing placements/internships,

  • Total Enrolled students: 325

  • Average package: 4.5 L

  • Students getting above average package: 123 (38%)

  • Students equal or below average package: 211(64%)

  • Didn’t opt for placement/not selected: 23

B2B vs B2C at CipherSchools

B2B has been working decently well for us and has helped to fuel the team, the area where we failed is B2C.

The reason for the failure of the B2C segment has been low-cost or no marketing. Although we did run a few(~10) batches in the past but turned out to be loss-making.

Marketing at CipherSchools

We’ll call it zero marketing, of course, like others we also ran ads, failing in a few because of the ticket price of the course(i.e 7k ). We also thought of reducing(Rs 500 ) and running it again, we did get the traction but with a good loss of capital.

Money is one of the primary concerns for any Bootstrap when it comes to marketing, one of the many reasons why we failed to establish ourselves in B2C is we tried competing with brands spending 50k/day vs 1k/day(CS).

Pivot

Having learned so many things through experiments in B2C we finally have decided to shut down the existing model and try out something new.

We have been dedicatedly working on our new product for the last couple of months which is expected to go public at the starting of next year but the beta version would be LIVE in the month of November itself.

The Product and Accessibility

The Product: Free educational product with an enhanced learning experience is all we can share at the moment.

Accessibility: It would be invite-based initially and the same could be requested by applying for early access through the website.
